Learn English with Agatha Christie
Thriller Lady teaches English? Definitely yes! Ms. Christie’s books (and movies and TV series derived from them) are eye-catching and interesting. Generally, the language used is not too colloquial or slang, which is fine for those who don’t have an advanced level (even if some sentences are a bit archaic). The other advantage is that there are so many books (she has written more than 80).
What level of proficiency do you need to have to enjoy her books and DVDs?
The original books are suitable for an intermediate level (or even Pre-intermediate). The DVDs are maybe a bit ‘more difficult, but with the help of subtitles even beginners should understand who was the murderess. In addition, beginners may find the Graded Reader version of the books (see below).

Consiglio sempre i ‘graded readers’ ai miei studenti, cioè i libricini che sono adatti al livello esatto dello studente. Esistono anche i reader adatti dai libri di Agatha Christie. Fai una ricerca sul sito bellismo del Cambridge International Book Centre oppure troverai vari titoli sul suto della Amazon: Death by drowning and other stories; Double Sin and other stories; 4.50 from Paddington; Murder on the Orient Express; Stories of Detection and Mystery.

Ci sono state tante produzioni (anche molto belle e amate) dei racconti di Agatha Christie. Ti segnalo in particolare i film di Miss Marple con Julia McKenzie e i film di Hercule Poirot con David Suchet.
Semplicemente leggere i libri ed ascoltare è sufficiente?
Divertente forse. Utile per il tuo apprendimento dell’inglese? Poco. Quando guardi o ascolti bisogna sempre farlo con metodo, impegno e in modo attivo. Devi sforzarti a vedere le parole mentre ascolti, devi ripetere ad alta voce le parole che senti che non sai pronuncia e devi notare i nuovi vocaboli in un quarderno o sul tuo smartphone, tablet o portatile.
