ASSIMIL – Perfecting English (C1).
Assimil. The intuitive method. Perfecting English, is an English course for independent study at the intermediate or advanced level. It’s available for purchase either on its own or with audio recordings in CD or mp3 format.
Who the course is best for
Assimil’s Perfecting English series is designed for language learners who want to cross the line between having a general baseline knowledge of English and being able to understand the subtleties and nuances of the language, so they can engage in English conversation beyond what’s covered in the classroom. This implies, therefore, that whoever decides to study the book should already be acquainted with most of the basic grammatical and linguistic structures in English. That way you can focus on enriching your vocabulary and studying more complex grammar within a variety of special interest topics such as economics, social issues, business, politics, information technology, and finance.
What the course covers
Aspects of the English language to be studied and perfected throughout the course are as follows:
– dialogue
– pronunciation
– comprehension
– vocabulary
– grammar
– writing
All these different facets of the English language are covered in detail in a variety of topics, like economics, finance, information technology, work, travel, and so forth.
Course organisation
The course consists of 70 lessons and and 3 hours of audio recordings, plus the phonetic transcript of the recordings. The Italian translation is available for all words and phrases found in the book, and several sections are devoted to grammar and translation exercises. These tools will help you with your reading and listening, as well as study the pronunciation of what you’ve read.
The CDs can play audio on any CD player or on your computer.
The mp3s can be played on any music application on your computer, or on any mp3 player or iPod; so you could even listen to an English lesson in the car or while you’re out for a jog.
Of course, if you listen to the audio tracks on your computer you’ll also get the chance to see the different phrases on your computer screen.

Assimil Method
The Assimil learning method is based on intuitive assimilation, which is divided into 2 phases:
– A passive phase where the student passively assimilates sounds and words through listening and making associations between different words;
– The second, active phase involves developing the ability to understand and formulate sentences in English, gradually becoming more complex.
